Editorial design &
Workflow systems
My editorial projects — from artist books to magazine-style publications — taught me to think like a product manager. Beyond visual design, they required organizing workflows, coordinating contributors, researching audiences, and planning launches. In parallel, during my agency work for brands like Jamba Juice, Burger King, and KFC, I applied the same structured approach to high-visibility campaigns where clarity, scalability, and timing were critical.
Problem
Publishing and campaign design faced challenges similar to product launches:
Complex workflows across contributors (writers, editors, illustrators, printers, or brand stakeholders).
Lack of structure in early drafts leading to delays or inconsistencies.
Need for audience alignment — without research, content risked missing the mark.
The challenge was to create repeatable systems that balanced creativity with structure, ensuring outputs were cohesive, timely, and relevant.
Process
User & Competitor Research — Studied publications and brand competitors to align content with audience expectations.
Workflow Design — Structured processes: research → content → design → proofing → launch.
Cross-Functional Collaboration — Worked with writers, illustrators, editors, and brand teams (Jamba Juice, Burger King) to align deliverables.
Design Systems — Built consistent rules (typography, grids, imagery) that scaled across issues and campaigns.
Launch & Promotion — Coordinated rollout in print and on social platforms to extend audience reach.
Solution
The outputs included four books, several artist publications, and national campaigns for food & beverage brands. Each was built on design systems that balanced creativity with consistency, reducing last-minute changes, improving collaboration, and ensuring timely delivery under deadlines.
Outcome & Skills
Delivered 4 books and multiple publications from concept to launch.
Contributed to national campaigns for Jamba Juice, Burger King, and KFC.
Developed workflow design and systems thinking skills that transfer directly into product management.
Practiced turning abstract ideas into tangible products with clear user orientation.
Built a foundation for design systems that now informs my digital product work.
